You have to wonder just how much popular support the Democrats really have when they have to resort to planting questions in debates and propping up fake "grass roots" movements like the "coffee party" scam.
It's no wonder that Democrats scoff at the notion that the tea party events are truly grass-roots because they've used rent-a-mobs for years to fake real citizen involvement. And of course their answer to the tea party movement is an organized attempt by liberal insiders to push leftist talking points, especially the notion that the tea party movement is full of angry white males.
I can't wait for November. No matter who much the Obama administration covers up for ACORN and manufacture fake organizations like the coffee party there's no way they can manufacture the facade of popular support necessary to provide cover for stealing close elections. (Not that that will stop them from trying!)

is LJ starting to resemble Detroit?
I can remember when tracking back over a day's worth of friends posts could easily surpass 400 entries. Now I can get 2-3 days worth before I hit 100.
Personally, I blame Bush Facebook.

One of the great myths of history is that American industrialists who brought about great changes in transportation, energy, etc. and happened to become enormously wealthy as a result were "robber barons". That is, by daring to profit from their endeavors they were vilified as evil men. The reality is that these mean profited because they created something of value and people voluntarily purchased their goods and services.
Fast forward to today and we have some real examples of robber barons. I say "real" because this crowd is making itself enormously wealthy not by providing goods and services that millions voluntarily purchase but by fomenting panic over a hoax and then using political power to profit personally from the fallout.
When the carbon settles Al Gore will be seen as one of the greatest villains in history. He has concocted a noxious combination of Credit Mobilier, Enron and global snake oil.
Al Gore is not going to go down quietly, though. Because there are billions—if not trillions—of dollars at stake and thousands of people stand to profit there is a huge crowd with vested interests in perpetuating the myths. Gore continues to urge these people to support him and his movement at great cost to the economies of the world.
However, Gore can't succeed unless a number of politicians and even judges go along with the hoax. That means he is vulnerable in nations with democracies and impartial court systems. So for now at least the voters hold their fate in their own hands. They can either go along with the hoax and become markedly poorer while Al Gore and others become billionaires or they can protect their interests and property by throwing Gore and his fellow snake oil sellers out on their ear. Without access to political power these false prophets of doom will be reduced to selling their wares on late night tv infomercials alongside 10 minutes a day belly busters and easy ways out of personal debt seminars.
Remember: Al Gore got a "D" in science (and flunked out of one college and dropped out of alw school). Don't follow in his footsteps!

I blame carbon!
After suffering snow, sleet, rain and consistently freezing temperatures, the knowledge that the Met Office has officially recognised winter 2009-10 as the coldest in 31 years brings with it a certain grim satisfaction.
Provisional figures from the forecaster show the UK winter ‑ which in forecasting terms lasts from the start of December until the end of February ‑ has been the harshest, in temperature terms, since 1978-79. 1978-9 was of course during the time when "scientific consensus" was that we were about to enter a new ice age.

At this point I don't think anyone is surprised by the continued hypocrisy of the Democrats. When they were in the minority in 2005 they called the "nuclear" option "arrogant" and "not what the Founders intended".
Apparently the nuclear option is now neither arrogant nor against the principles of the Founding Fathers. Gee, I wonder what's changed?
One thing is for sure: they're not embarrassed!

To hear the hysterical left tell the story you'd think that Jim Bunning stomps on kittens to amuse himself while laughing at the plight of the poor and downtrodden.
His crime? Why, he has the audacity to ask the Democrats to pay for their requests to spend your money on other people. That is, when the Democrats said they wanted to spend ten more billion of your tax dollars (some of it to extend unemployment benefits) he asked them to cut ten billion in spending from another program.
Oh no he didn't! Why yes, he did.
Amazingly enough this is allegedly a Democrat stance known as "paygo", in which programs that increase spending (or debt) are supposed to be "paid for" with increases in taxes (the preferred Democrat method) or cuts in spending (pretty much mythical given past Congressional performance). The hypocrisy of Democrats is readily understood when you realize that it is only a weapon they use to force through tax increases and perpetuate the myth that tax cuts need to be "paid for".
So of course when Jim Bunning called their bluff there was only one thing for the left to do: try to destroy Jim Bunning as a person and not let his message get out.
$10 billion dollars: trivial when it comes out of your pocket; the end of the world when Democrats have to prioritize existing spending to find it.

You know, it's bad enough (for Democrats) that Charlie Rangel has (again) been caught accepting some sweetheart (read: unethical) bonuses like swanky trips. But now Nancy Pelosi has decided to make sure the issue festers until the November elections by defending Rangel.
Oh yes she did! :P
In a defense that reminds me of the "no controlling legal authority" non-apology excuse from Al Gore, Nancy's position is that since Charlie Rangel's ethical problems did not "endanger the country" they aren't a big deal.
It must be nice to be so openly hypocritical and also so unashamed of it! It probably helps her sleep at night.
Incredibly, Nancy still maintains that her party and control of Congress since the 2006 election is "the most ethical and honest in history". She must be whispering "in an alternate universe" every time she says that!

Good ol' boy Keith Olbermann (of the exclusively white prime time anchors network MSNBC) get owned by the Dallas tea party organization.
Olbermann, of course, refused the invitation. He can't claim he's never seen any non-white people at a tea party event if he actually looks!
Poor Keith...he has his "dozens" of viewers must be pining for the good ol' days when they could accuse people of being racists and no one would be able to catch them in their lies.
Even if Keith did dare travel to an actual tea part event MSNBC would simply edit the video to remove all images of minorities, like they did when they claimed it was "white people" appearing with guns near Obama events.
Of course when you work at MSNBC you are evidently conditioned to only see white people.
Once again I have to ask when will Keith give up his anchor seat so a "person of color" can actually host a show on MSNBC?

Great news! The Board of Trustees for Central High School has approved the plan to fire all the teachers following their rejection of an improvement plan.
The vote came after weeks of debate on how school Superintendent Frances Gallo believed the school, one of the poorest performing in the state, could be improved.
Gallo announced earlier this month that she would have no choice but to propose firing all the teachers after the Central Falls Teachers Union refused to accept her improvement plan. The teacher's union shot itself in the foot by responding to a proposal to reimburse teachers for part of their summer work at a rate of $30/hour (equivalent to $60K a year) with a demand for $90/hour ($180K a year), among other things. I'm thinking the teachers are going to vote for new leadership real soon now.
Hmmm...I wonder how much it would cost to move to Rhode Island? I wouldn't mind teaching there at a 50% higher pay rate than the local one...even if I do have to give up living in Ohio. :D

I'd like to discover the location of this alternate reality the Democrats believe exists.
Mainly so I can destroy the gateway that allows creatures like Keith Olbermann and Janeane Garofalo to cross over.
Tonight Olbermann was claiming that the public really wants the kind of health care "reform" the Democrats have been pushing despite the electoral reality demonstrated in recent contests. He went on to channel the Garofalo Theory that anything an opponent of Obama says is a series of code words proving that they are racists.
Of course he hand the several dozen viewers he has eat up this kind of mass delusional manifestation of logical fallacies. Unfortunately for them the time when they could freely toss around baseless accusations of racism (supported by the MSM of course) and have the Republicans react like frightened rabbits is long gone. Yet they still persist in promoting this disingenuous template.
I can't wait for them to claim only counting real people for the census is racist, too.

Share your conspiracy theories! :D
I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact that Obama's not the sportiest guy around when it comes to winter games (and curling is perhaps a bit too much like bowling!). I'm sure he'll be all over the 2012 games. Not only is basketball a top event but it's in Europe, his favorite country.1
The thing is, if Canadian health care was as wonderful as some would have us believe, that would have been the perfect venue to champion his own socialized medicine scheme in front of a world-wide audience.
Heck, he might have won a second Nobel for it! :D
1 Yes, that's a joke.

That is apparently the name of the man who crashed his plane into IRS offices in Austin, Texas today. Under the cut is the text of the letter he has apparently left behind. ( letter ) This is a breaking story so I am sure we'll know more in the coming days. From his letter I would say the man had considerable mental problems. Reading between the lines I think he tried more than one "how to pay no taxes" schemes—to his detriment.
I hope casualties in the office building are minimal. This act is as deplorable as any terrorist suicide bombing.

Exxon has bad news for the suckers still hyper-aggressively long on oil.
Exxon Mobil (XOM) announced today that in 2009 the company's proven reserves increased by 133% of the amount of oil produced.
Exxon now has 23.3 billion oil-equivalent-barrels of reserves comprised of about half liquids and half gas. It's the largest amount in the company's history.
Amazingly, Exxon, who has been accused in the past of being too conservative in terms of exploration and development, has been finding more oil than it produces for each of the last 16 years, to the dismay of peak oil proponents. I challenged the peak oil fans to keep buying oil futures (and holding them) north of $100 a barrel. I don't think anyone (still solvent) has taken that path, though. :D
It's still about (real) supply and demand, not fables about imminent doom. We might indeed run out of oil in the future, but that is a long way off in terms of our lifetime and even more so from an investment standpoint.

But it's easy to spot a woman hating racist when he gets up on a soapbox and shouts it for all to hear.
It's always sad to see when someone who lacks the ability or tenacity to succeed at something in life tries to tear down those who have. Even more so when that person also throws in racism and sexism in a hateful attempt to justify their sense of victimization.
Mr. DeVega should spend more of his time developing his own talents and skills instead of trying to tear down other people. Of course that would take away valuable time from his demonstrations of being the "victim" of a society "rigged against him".
Time to put on your big girl panties, Chauncey!
